"WE CAN" in 2000

Soccer In The Streets presents its 1st Annual NATIONAL Can Food Drive. The Can Food Drive will be held December 4th -December 15th in ten Soccer In The Streets cities. Donations will be given to local churches, shelters and food banks in time for the Christmas Holidays. The goal is to collect 2000 cans representing the year 2000.

According to Tamara Johnson, National Program Manager for the project, "This is a time to be thankful and a time to help. As the holidays approach, we hope that Soccer Streets families will remember their neighbors who are struggling to feed their families." Johnson pointed out that the terrible truth is that in the midst of plenty, more and more children of the working poor are going to sleep with empty stomachs and that during this very special time of the year, there can be no greater joy than helping those in need among us . . . even if you don't have a lot to give.

It is the hope of the Soccer Streets National staff that this holiday season brings you and your family health and happiness. All are encouraged to get involved in this service project.

Soccer Streets Helps Promote Awareness and Civic Duty in Communities

Soccer In The Streets partners with Motivational Educational Entertainment (MEE) to promote voter registration, voter education and voter participation. Soccer In The Streets is a member of the MEE Community Network, which is a group of community-based organizations committed to responsible access to and interaction with the communities they serve. SITS National has agreed to aid in the distribution of informational and promotional materials; distribution of voter registration and voter education information; identification of other organization partners and community leaders who can contribute to help educate the community about voting; promotion for voter turnout through information and dissemination and ongoing dialogue with the community members; and identification of local events that can be used for dissemination of information, and to support dialogue around voter education issues.
